After studying at the Art Institute of Chicago, Mimzi has exhibited widely for many years in competitive and group exhibitions and has won many awards for excellence. Her work is featured in corporate collections worldwide, including Hewitt Packard, Saks Fifth Avenue, Marriott Hotels, CRST, Hon Industries, and Deere & Company. She is also represented in numerous private collections across the nation.
In 2009, Mimzi won the Riverssance Harley Award for her contribution to art in the Quad Cities.
Trained as a realist painter, Mimzi's work also moves into abstraction. Paintings on paper, canvas, or Plexiglas contain textures and symbols influenced by antiquities, Egyptian hieroglyphics, ancient Southwest rock art, and often the night sky. Also evident is the repeated use of archetype symbols such as circles, triangles, squares, and cross shapes.
The technique involves multilayers of oil or acrylic on textured ground with additional use of pencil, oil crayon, abrasives, wax, metal leaf, and found or created objects. The works show archeological influence and leave the viewer with the impression that there is something more to be seen and felt beneath the layers of paint. Mimzi has conducted workshops in mixed-media techniques for several years.
Original artworks range from small pieces to large site specific installation pieces. Mimzi is also available for unique portraiture.
Her work is sold exclusively at Mimzi Art and Frame. Please call for more information about any of the work shown here, including current availability.
