Noctuary I and II
A "noctuary" is a record of what passes in the night. That description was the inspiration for this piece in mixed media. Heavily textured images look like shrines and contain paintings of the moon. This piece is an award winning entry the Rock Island Fine Art Exhibition in 2010 at Augustana College. St. Emil Reliquary
A tribute to my Great Uncle Emil Kretschmar, this painting/shadowbox was created as an entry for Quad City Arts Exhibition "Roots". It was the first place winner. In the top opening is a painting of Emil and his dog with a gold leaf background; below is a walnut basket he carved and a poem written by my brother, Tim, entitled "St. Emil", the inspiration for this piece.

Canyonlands I
One of the most magical places I have been to is Moab, Utah; The Anasazi, or Ancient Ones, were the prehistoric dwellers in this place and left many remnants of their culture including petroglyphs and pictographs. This piece was inspired by our many off-road jeep trips into the back country where these rock artworks and ruins are everywhere. Discovery

Excavation
This wonderfully colorful mixed media piece, like many others, is inspired by archeology; It has the feel of something being unearthed in a dig site layer. It is extremely textural with some touches of irridescent purple; beautifully framed in dark brown linen with a mottled pewter frame and conservation glass to assure non-fading color. The Long Way Home

Luna
Luna is a beautiful and thought-provoking painting on paper with deep texture and wonderful color. People see many different things in the imagery. I have also made use of a variegated gold leaf with blue irridescence that inspired this color palette. It is framed in a large gold frame with taupe linen mats and a fillet. Sante Fe Zig Zag

Annular Eclipse
The night sky is one of my influences and this triptych on handmade paper shows the progression of an eclipse. There are pieces of mica and words and images impressed in the surface. Three Eggs
As are many of my paintings, this one is done on handmade paper from India. I love the irregular edges and handmade character of this paper. Eggs
I love the beautiful simple shape of eggs. In these two pieces I have created "fantasy" eggs with colors and patterns I have imagined. The originals, acrylic on 2 1/2x5 paper with gold deckle, were a commissioned pair for a client. Earth to Mimzi: Ground Report B
This painting was done in Arizona of a feather found in the desert. It is one of a series of "ground reports" that became a kind of journal. It is a pair with Ground Report F, also a feather. It was created in mixed media on hand-made paper. The feather was drawn on and scratched into the surface and highlighted with acrylic paint. Framed in a light wood burl with rag mat and conservation glass, overall size is 22"x22"; each $1200

Eggs and Feather
In this mixed media piece on handmade paper, I have painted the three eggs and added an "artifact" with a feather embossed on it that I made from clay. The pastel color of the mat is enhanced by a French marbled paper line around the opening, with a simple walnut frame. Overall 13"x 16"; SOLD

April 1865
I have done many paintings of Abraham Lincoln and this is one of my favorites. The image was inspired by a broken glass plate photo of Lincoln, taken weeks before his assasination. I scarred and distressed the paper to replicate that look. Framed in pewter with a brown silk mat and fillet with museum glass. Overall size 21" x 24". SOLD

I Carry Your Heart
This piece, which I truly adore, is inscribed with a line from my favorite poem by e e cummings "And its you are whatever a moon has always meant and whatever a sun wil always sing is you" It really resonates with me so I chose to represent it in these two pieces on handmade Indian Village paper; they are full of texture and metal leaf (Gold for the sun and silver for the moon); For a total presentation, I debossed stars on the mat and covered it with linen.
